Madidi Amazon Travel

Good morning, Hola Alberto

       Newsletter 2008

Year 2008 was the second year of Madidi Amazon Travel in operation.

We continued our focus on promoting indigenous and ethical non-indigenous ecotourism in the Rurrenabaque area.  Minor expansion into other part of Bolivia was added and more fine tuning was done on our web site.  Emphasis was made on making our organization humanitarian and this was largely influenced by the water project of San Luis Chico in 2005.  Tourism with a humanitarian focus.

I attended various meetings at the offices of the Biosphere of Pilon Lajas and other locations in Rurrenabaque on various topics raging from resource management to tourism, to production and marketing of Jatata, a local material for roofing.  A long time and special on-going relationship with the indigenous folks of the upper Quiquibey River permitted us to explore other tourism product for the area.

Continuous building of relationship with local organizations, visits to the Beiler family in Ixiamas, whom are the owner of a beautiful homestead outside of Ixiamas, literally a little paradise.

The month of April was especially mark by a return to Yukon, Canada to look after my property in that neck of the woods!  A little bit of a shock in terms of weather.

All was very well and it was a nice return.  I worked a bit left and right; however, the focus was to do maintenance on my properties to return to Rurrenabaque as soon as possible - My new home!

Fortunately, for internet communication, I was able and continue to maintain contact as much as I can with the local people whether for tours or chatting.

In August, more up-grade was done to the web site.

By summer end the work in Canada was not terminated and I decided to stay in Canada for the winter 2008-09.

Winter was a fine time to fine tune thing and think of future project for that lovely area of Bolivia

Gracias a todos, the Rurre bunch, Marta and Mirna in La Paz.
